Question Types Explained
Orbiform supports thirteen question types, covering everything from short answers to multi-select choices, star ratings, signatures, addresses, and live Calendly booking. Every question can be marked required, given helper text, and attached media (image, GIF, video, or a YouTube/Vimeo link).
1. The thirteen question types
- Text — a single-line short answer, for names, titles, or short responses.
- Textarea — a multi-line long answer, for open feedback or descriptions.
- Email — a text field validated as an email address.
- Number — numeric input only.
- Select — a dropdown with one choice from a list of options.
- Radio — single-choice options shown as a list of buttons, all visible at once.
- Checkbox — multiple-choice options; respondents can pick more than one.
- Date — a date picker.
- Rating — a 1-5 star rating.
- Link — a text field validated as a URL.
- Electronic signature — respondents sign with mouse/touch.
- Address — an autocomplete address field.
- Calendly Booking — embeds a live Calendly booking calendar from a connected account so respondents can schedule a real appointment without leaving the form. See Connect Calendly.
2. Choosing the right type
Use select when you have many options and screen space is tight (it collapses into a dropdown); use radio when you have a handful of options and want them all visible at once for faster scanning; use checkbox only when more than one answer is genuinely valid. For satisfaction or NPS-style questions, rating gives you a quick 1-5 scale with built-in analytics support.
3. Required fields and media
Toggle Required on any question to block submission until it's answered (required fields only apply to questions that are actually visible — a question hidden by conditional logic is never required). Attach an image, GIF, video file, or a YouTube/Vimeo embed to a question, or to the form's intro screen, from the question's media picker.
